Yamaha Japan selects Malaysia among other countries to test the new E01

Yamaha will soon be taking a step into the world of electric motorcycles starting with the Yamaha E01.

Interestingly, Yamaha Japan has chosen Malaysia along with several other Asian countries including Thailand, Indonesia and Taiwan as the Yamaha E01 test field. Proof of Concept planner Yasushi Nomura confirmed the matter during a product briefing session.

Yamaha Japan has previously held test sessions in Europe and Japan and will continue the effort in the Malaysian climate which will test the durability and toughness of the Yamaha E01.

The test will focus on the distance travelled, the charging method and the time to be taken during charging which is indeed a major challenge for electrical mobility.

The Yamaha E01 comes with almost the same dimensions as the existing Yamaha Nmax model. However, it will feature a 4.9kWh lithium-ion battery capable of generating 8.1kW (10.8hp) at 5,000rpm and 30.2Nm at 1,950rpm.

As an urban scooter, the Yamaha E01 offers can reach a travel distance of up to 100km and is capable of reaching speeds of 100km/h.

With a conventional charge at home, it takes 5 hours to charge the battery to full. On the other hand, with the fast charge from the distributor, it takes about 1 hour for it to reach 80 per cent. With a portable charger, it takes 14 hours until it is fully charged.

The new Yamaha E01 offers ample luggage storage, 28L under the seat thus making this electric scooter practical for daily use. Speculations are that the bike will commence testing around July this year.
