The patent shows that the 1,301cc V-twin looks identical to KTM’s Super Duke R motor.

Last January, Benelli had already filed a patent for the latest engine referring to the 799cc parallel-twin platform that will power the next TNT model. The shape of the engine also looks identical to the KTM LC8 engine.

In the latest development, Chinese motorcycle company Qianjiang-which is also the owner of Benelli-has filed a second engine patent this year referring to the 1,301cc V-Twin platform.

Interestingly, the design of the engine also looks similar to the KTM 1301cc engine found on the Super Duke R.

According to the patent, the engine carries the code name ‘QJ2V108MYL’ which at the same time gives an explanation of the specifications offered.

The first two letters ‘QJ’ refer to Qianjiang while the next two letters, 2V mean V-Twin. Next, the number 108 reveals a ‘bore’ of 108mm – the same as the KTM 1290 engine.

The significant similarities between the latest engine developed by Qianjiang and KTM do not mean that the Chinese company is completely imitating the KTM engine, instead, it indicates that a new collaboration has already been signed between the two companies which will be announced later.

Qianjiang has previously collaborated with several foreign motorcycle manufacturers including MV Agusta and Harley-Davidson. Not to forget, KTM has also collaborated with Chinese motorcycle manufacturer, CFMoto before.

What is for sure, the latest engine field will definitely be applied to Benelli models that will be marketed in Europe and Asia. Benelli is currently enjoying success in several European markets, especially in Italy with the TRK 502 emerging as the most popular model over the years.
