Red Bull KTM rider Miguel Oliveira swept his first podium victory of the season after winning the Indonesian Grand Prix at the Mandalika Circuit.
Although the race was postponed until 4.15 pm due to heavy rain, the race started well for all riders. However, the experience on the wet circuit turned out to be a huge advantage for Oliveira and Ducati rider Jack Miller who topped charts with a one-two position.
After trailing behind Miller for a few laps, Oliviera seemed to have a surge of confidence and better grip to intercept and continued to maintain the lead until the finish line.
Second place went to world champion defender, Fabio Quartararo who despite being in fifth place at one point managed to overtake Alex Rins (Suzuki) and Johann Zarco (Pramac) to confirm the position.
Zarco also returned to the podium after the last time at the Circuit of Catalunya last season to complete the podium in third place. Meanwhile, RNF Racing’s ‘rookie’ rider, Darryn Binder, can be proud to finish in 10th place.
“Emotionally that was a roller coaster. The start was perfect and then it was hard to judge the limit. I followed Jack for a few laps and understood I could go faster, I then focused to do the maximum and built the gap. I was managing the cushion through the race but it was not easy. It’s hasn’t been the easiest time for me so this is emotional I promised my daughter a trophy from Indonesia so this is for her. Let’s go to Argentina now and see what we can do and keep up the level. Right now, I’m happy to be on top of the podium,” said Oliveria.
