Triumph Motorcycles has recently unveiled a prototype model of their electric motorcycle, ‘Project TE-1’. This model is Triumph’s benchmark heading into the e-bike market, competing with brands like Zero Motorcycles, Energica, LiveWire, and even Harley-Davidson.

Developed as an electric motorcycle, the TE-1 weighs about 220 kg and comes with a ‘sporty’ design. Triumph is rumoured to be giving the finishing touches to this electric motorcycle in the next few months.

However, key components such as the ‘single-sided swingarm’ and its ‘exposed frame’ design will be retained. The success of the project also marks the end of a collaboration between Triumph, Williams Advanced Engineering, Integral Powertrain Ltd, and WMG at the University of Warwick, funded by the Office for Zero-Emission Vehicles.

Led by Triumph, the success of the TE-1 is the result of expert innovation from diverse industries, contributing to its frame and rear-subframe, panels and wheels, final drive system (including transmission). It also contributed to its carbon belt drive, Ohlins USD cartridge forks, Ohlins RSU, Brembo M50 monobloc callipers and even its Triumph Motorcycle control software.

The main objective behind the TE-1 project is to develop efficient and high-quality electric motorcycles. This objective will in turn be a pillar of the company is empowering its future as well as increasing its credibility as a British automotive company.
