BMW R 18 Transcontinental and R 18 B now in Malaysia at RM186,500

Less than six months after the global launch, BMW Motorrad Malaysia has now unveiled the BMW R 18 Transcontinental and R 18 Bagger.

The BMW R 18 Transcontinental and R 18 B (Bagger) take the R 18 to a higher level as Great American Tourer motorcycles.

Developed based on the R 18 First Edition and Classic models, the Transcontinental and Bagger variants focus on high comfort for long-distance rides as a result of the use of ‘batwing’ type front panels and higher windshields.

According to BMW Motorrad, the R 18 Transcontinental offers American-style motorcycle elements while the R 18 B is mainly for casual riders.

The two variants feature a 1,802cc Big Boxer engine. Both are capable of delivering 91hp at 4,750rpm and 158Nm at 3,000rpm.

The use of a ‘double-loop tube’ type frame also continues the continuity of the BMW R 5 machine which was once quite iconic.

Among the interesting features found on R 18 Transcontinental and R 18 B include the strut-type suspension with damping and adjustable preload, lightweight alloy rims and BMW Motorrad Full Integral ABS.

To complete the feature as a ‘touring’ machine, these two variants come with a ‘Dynamic Cruise Control’ function that was not previously on the R 18 Classic variant.
