Jeffrey Herlings won the MXGP of Turkey yesterday, counting for the MXGP motocross world championship. The Red Bull KTM man is back to his best level, having added victory in the first race at Afyon and second place in the second to be the highest scorer in the round ahead of teammate Jorge Prado. Thus, he remains fully within the fight for the title, being 36 points behind leader Tim Gajser (Team HRC).

In a statement, Herlings made a positive assessment of the first Turkish round, but admitted that he will have to work to get a better start – this at a stage of the season when the championship accounts, he noted, are getting tight: – It was a good day. I put the pieces together and took second place in the second race overall. Our matches need to be better, so we know where we need to improve when we start again here. I had to overtake a lot of riders and really work for this victory. […]. The competition is pretty strong. I’m doing everything I can and the championship is very close. I’m already looking forward to Wednesday.
