Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has announced that the ministry has extended the deadline for renewal of driving licences and road tax until December 31 2021.

With the extension, the ministry assures the public that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement officers and the police will not take action against those with expired driving licences as well as road tax.

“Motorists with expired road tax must, however, ensure that the insurance for their vehicles is valid. They must display their insurance e-cover note for authorities to check.”

Previously in August, the JPJ had announced that all road users must renew their licences by Sept 30. Pursuant to that, checks on compliance and enforcement would be effective from Oct 1.

These apply to the  Competent Driving Licences (CDL), Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM or road tax), Goods Driving Licence (GDL) and the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence.

In addition to that, Dr Wee also state that victims of floods in Yan, Kedah, whose JPJ documents had been destroyed will be given a replacement free of charge. However, they must first lodge a police report and bring it together to the JPJ counter for verification. Replacement fees for driving licences are RM20, road tax for cars at RM50 and motorcycles at RM20.
