Samurai is back: KTM confirms Dani Pedrosa’s Austria wildcard

  Dani Pedrosa is back. After leaving Honda in late 2018, the KTM test driver will return to the tracks on Red Bull Ring, at KTM’s home. This will be the driver’s first official race since leaving the world championship. The Austrian manufacturer confirmed it hours ago, and it will be the 35-year-old Dani Spaniard’s first wildcard.

‘It has been super interesting to be part of this project since the beginning with KTM in MotoGP and to have been able to share my experience with them. Step by step we did the best we could and now it’s interesting to get back into the race again because it gives you a different perspective compared to a normal test. My focus in the GP is trying to test the things we have on the bike in a racing situation’, said Pedrosa in a statement, later explaining what his goals are: – I want to understand the requests that pilots may have made for different sessions and see some technical parts. Watching it from home, I can feel the improvements on bikes and races but to understand more about MotoGP now, new technologies, and how to race when using strategies against opponents, we will make this wildcard. It’s hard to talk about my expectations after being away from competition for so long. Maybe everything clicks into a racing mentality, or maybe not, but let’s try to enjoy the weekend as best we can.
