Puspakom Malaysia

Have a car or motorcycle with expired road tax that needs to go through Puspokom inspection to get it back on road? Well, then this news might be something for you. Starting today (4th September 2020) private owners with expired road tax not exceeding 3 years now can renew their road tax; Lesen Kenderaan Motor (LKM) without going through the usual puspakom inspection.

Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong told the press the government made this decision after taking into account the private vehicle owners’ request for relaxation in the rules as some faced financial constraints in getting their vehicles inspected by Puspakom because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to this, owners with expired road tax exceeding 1 year / 12 months had to pay and go through the whole puspakom process in order to renew their expired road tax/ LKM.  However, with the new rule, the 1-year limit has been extended to 3 years/ 36 months.

Wee Ka Siong also mentioned; based on records there are 4.27 million vehicles in Malaysia with road tax expired for one to three years. Can you believe it?

Here are the T&C and details on the new Puspakom Rule:
