Incoming KTM RC supersports bike spotted! Is it an RC 390 or RC 490?

Incoming KTM RC supersports bike spotted! Is it an RC 390 or RC 490?

KTM’s upcoming RC Supersports bike makes its first appearance in production-ready form. But is it an updated RC 390 or an all-new RC 490?

2021 KTM RC

The KTM RC 390 and Duke 390 made their first debut back in 2012 at ECIMA in Milan. Both these bikes were developed under a joint program of KTM and Bajaj engineers. Speaking of the RC 390, the only major update the model received was a conventional slip-on style exhaust system alongside minor design changes.

Spy shots from last month

Fast-forwarding to 2020, about a month ago, folks from Motorrad Magazine Italy spotted an all-new KTM RC sports bike with revised styling, an-all new chassis and an updated engine. The spy shots suggested the RC that was spotted could be the updated RC 390 model for 2021. However, with the latest reports from Visor Down, there could be another side to the story.  Visor Down speculates the “new RC” could also be an all-new RC 490 model as KTM is currently working on a fresh “490” line up too.

Scoop

So the new KTM RC Supersports bike just made its first appearance in a production-ready form in  KTM’s 2021 Product Portfolio. Comparing the spy shots from earlier last month and the silhouette of the bike on the product portfolio, both the bikes look very similar in design. Last month we got a preview of the testing prototype in just matte black, however, judging from the picture on the product portfolio, it looks like the new upcoming RC sports bike would come in MotoGP inspired orange and blue colour scheme. Yes, blue joins the party now.

Back to the question, so it is an RC 390 or RC 490? Well, we think it could be an updated version of the RC 390 or even the RC 250. If that’s the case, KTM could update the design of the whole RC range too. Given we already heard some news about KTM developing a fresh 490 lineup; this RC could also end up as an all-new RC 490. What do you think? Tell us your answer in the comment section below!
