On this week’s episode, we are having a look at one of the very first custom Honda CT 125 Hunter Cub / Trail Cub builds – The K-Speed CT125 Combat based on the Honda CT125!
In case you missed last week’s episode, iMotorbike’s weekly iM Cubaholic series covers everything about the iconic Honda Cubs. The Cub is one of the most important bikes in both the motorcycle and Honda’s history. Honda changed the way people look at riding motorcycles with the introduction of the Super cub and the ad campaign “You meet the nicest people on a Honda” back in the 1950s. Since then, Honda has sold over 100 million Cubs with a large Cub lineup/variants where some models are barely known. In this series, we cover everything from both known and unknown Cub models to their; history, specs, features and many more. Are you a Cub addict? well, this is something you wouldn’t want to miss!
Last week, our coverage on “Papa Jahat”, a Honda C70 with a 600cc engine swap went crazy. So for this week, we decide to feature something for the Honda CT125 fans. So we all know, after Honda’s preview of the CT125, everyone went crazy. However, fans from Thailand were the first ones to get their hands on the new Honda CT125 Hunter Cub/ Trail Cub.
Honda Thailand launched the Honda CT125 last month, in June. Following up with K-Speed Thailand’s social media we knew K-Speed BKK was one of those guys who got their hands on the bike first. We all thought it would be a mildly modded Honda CT125, well, boy, were we wrong. K-Speed Thailands latest creation, the K-Speed CT125 Combat based on the latest Honda CT 125 Hunter Cub broke cover a few days ago and here is everything you need to know about this build!
K-SPEED CT125 Combat based on the Honda CT125 Hunter Cub – The very first custom Honda CT125!
K-SPEED has worked on various Honda Super Cub and Honda Monkey builds, however, this is their very first custom Honda CT125 build, well, it is also the very first Honda CT125 custom build on the planet. Build up from the Honda C125 Super Cub, as the name suggests, Honda CT125 Hunter Cub/ Trail Cub’s purpose is to serve as a fun trail bike. However, folks as K-SPEED decided to ramp up the “fun factor” by giving the Honda CT125 a “combat” theme. Pretty crazy, eh? According to sources, K-Speed built this bike as a prototype to develop parts for the new Honda CT125 within just 10 days! Can you believe it?
The Build – Here is what K-SPEED did to the Honda CT125
Design
At the front of the machine, the team modified the stock triple tree with new rises, where, a set of new enduro-style Diablo handlebars were added. Alongside the handlebar, K-Speed added in new grips, switches, side mirrors, throttle and a new Takegawa brake master cylinder. To enhance the offroad capability of the bike, K-Speed ditched the front mudguards and replaced it with a high upfront fender to fit in a chunky enduro 90/100-17 tires.
Up next, K-Speed swapped out the stock headlight with a new LED headlight with a custom grill which mounts directly to the stock mounting points.
K-Speed used an extended crash bar and added in a set of LED turn signals. As the stock handlebar was swapped out, K-Speed moved the LED instrument cluster to the side of the bike on the crash bar.
Aside from this, additional touches like the plastic side fins, engine covers, side stand footprint extender, bigger sump guard, upgraded brake lines and sleeker footpegs enhance the form and functionality.
And yes, what’s the point of the name “combat” without a gun right? The CT125 actually comes with a Gatling gun-style exhaust which spins when the engine is running; it also spins faster with the rpm!
The CT125’s stock seat was stripped down, slimmed and recovered with a classy custom stitched seat.
Moving further to the rear, K-Speed got rid of the stock swingarm and replaced it with a 2 inch longer custom-built unit; which gave them enough space to fit a chunky 100/100-17 enduro tire at the rear. Aside from this, K-Speed added in few more of their parts from their catalogue, like the aftermarket chainguard, LED taillights and turn signals.
On top of this, K-Speed took out the OEM mudguard so they replaced it with a slimmer high mounted rear mudguard unit just like the front. To hold the shorter mudguard and “toolbox” set up, K-Speed added in a rear rack. To go hand in hand with the chunky tires and added load, K-Speed installed their in-house Diablo shocks; which gave the bike a 1.5-inch lift.
To blend in with the whole “combat” theme, K-Speed gave a nice distressed paint job! We think it adds in more oomph factor to the build, what do you think?
Engine and Brakes
As for the engine and brakes, K-Speed went along with the stock engine and brakes. Well, the CT125 comes with powerful enough air-cooled 4 stroke 125cc engine so we understand why K-Speed went ahead with the stock powertrain. As for the brakes, it’s the same case, the stock bike comes with floating disc brakes at the front and rear, so it’s good enough to provide sufficient stopping power.
