#StayAtHomeGP : Alex Marquez secures podium win in Spain

Alex Marquez has proved himself to be a strong contender in his first season by clinching second place in his home round in Spain.

The Red Bull Virtual Grand Prix of Spain went underway during the weekend and rookie Alex Marquez once again shows his powerful performance and scored a perfect podium win. Teammate and brother Marc Marquez, on the other hand, trailed behind at fourth place.

Alex Marquez adapted very well to the MotoGP 2020 video game as the Spaniard continuously showed an impressive performance. He started on the middle of the front row whereas Marc Marquez was further down on the third row. Turn One was rather messy overall but it was a great start for Alex and his RC213V.

Alex and Francesco Bagnaia were head to head in the first lap but after TUrn 10, he managed to gain some advantage. The Moto2 World Champion charged forward and moved his way up. By lap four, he was in second place and continued his stance until the end of the race, with a crash eluding his chance of winning. Alex is now the joint leader of the championship.

With Alex’s crash ahead, Marc was again battling for the podium and spent following laps battling with Viñales. The pair were soon joined by Marc’s Repsol Honda Team team-mate and the reigning World Champion looked for an opening. Late antics with Petrucci saw Marquez drop back to fourth and collect strong points for the championship.

Repsol Honda Team pleased with the opening rounds of the virtual season.

Alex Marquez (Repsol Honda Team)- As It Happened

“Another difficult race! The crash really wasn’t good and I’m confident that without it I could have won, it’s a shame but the second place moves us to the top of the points. It was really fun though, I really enjoy putting on a show for the fans and it’s also nice to have some jokes with the other riders. Next time we aim to go one better!”

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team)- As It Happened

“A pretty similar race to the Red Bull Ring, avoiding crashes and trying to take the podium. Congratulations to Alex for another podium, he has impressed a lot in these opening races. I feel myself getting better but still, there are those three or four guys who maybe have another step over me. A bit more time on the PlayStation should help me to take another step. I hope everyone who watched enjoyed, stay safe everyone!”
