With the new Dynamic Roadster F900R and the F900XR in the Adventure Sport segment, BMW Motorrad is further expanding its product range for the popular mid-range. Both the R and the XR offer sporty riding fun, straightforward handling and a unique range of equipment options, packaged to offer attractive value for money. Based on a powerful shared backbone, the two models differ significantly in terms of character and positioning.
BMW F900 R – Dynamic Roadster
The BMW F900R features sporty and aggressive styling and also the matching performance in terms of engine output, torque and sound. The ergonomics of the BMW F900 R of equal interest to experienced sports riders and newcomers.
BMW F900 XR – Adventure Sport
“XR” stands for an uncompromising mix of sportiness and touring capability. With this model, BMW Motorrad is now expanding the lineup with the addition of this mid-range model.
The BMW F900XR also demonstrates easy mastery of the Adventure Sport segment’s key qualities. Sporty riding dynamics combined with upright, GS-like ergonomics, outstanding long-distance and passenger suitability and a design that conveys a powerful sense of character.
The new F900 XR also benefits from the technology transfer from the upper class: Adaptive Cornering Light, Keyless Ride or Intelligent Emergency Call are all unique features in the mid-range.
Engine
In the new F900 R and F900, XR both feature 2-cylinder in-line engine first introduced in 2018 with the F 850 GS. However, with further development, the engine now produces 77 kW (105 hp) and an even a fuller torque curve. This enhances the riding character and dynamics of the bikes. The main factor here is an increase in capacity to 895 cc (previously 853 cc). With an ignition distance of 270/450 degrees and a new underfloor silencer system, the engine offers a particularly emotional sound.
For the first time in addition to the standard anti-hopping clutch, the new F900 R and F900 XR can be fitted with engine drag torque control (MSR). The MSR prevents the rear wheel from slipping through abrupt throttling or downshifting, thereby ensuring even greater safety.
Riding Modes
The new BMW F900 R and BMW F900 XR come with “Rain” and “Road” riding modes as standard. The standard version also features ABS and ASC Automatic Stability Control.
On top of this, with “Riding Modes Pro” as an ex-works option, the sporty characteristics of the new F900 R and F900 XR can be experienced even more intensively.
The additional riding modes “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro”, Dynamic Traction Control DTC and banking capable ABS Pro are also available, along with Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and the new engine drag torque control (MSR).
Chassis and Suspension
Similar to the GS model, the X and the XR also make use of the steel bridge frame. This integrates the engine as a load-bearing element. The newly developed bolt-on steel rear frame also gives the bikes a visually short and slim rear.
As for the suspension, the Front-wheel control is taken care of by an upside-down telescopic fork. While the rear wheel is guided by a double-sided swinging arm with central suspension strut. The roadster, F900 R has a shorter spring travel compared to the longer spring travel in the F900 XR. This is to fulfil their riding characteristics.
There is also BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) available as an option. This further enhances the riding experience and comfort by automatically adapting damping of the rear spring strut depending on the riding conditions.
On top of this, the fuel tank is now back in its classic position in front of the rider. The light, plastic-welded fuel tanks with a capacity of 15.5 litres on the F900 XR and 13 litres on the F900 R. This feature is a world’s first in motorcycle construction.

Both the F series feature LED lights, however, there is an option to include adaptive cornering light as a component of headlight pro. This feature improves illumination which in turn enhances rider safety.
On top of this, the bikes feature a 6.5-inch TFT colour screen with BMW Motorrad Connectivity as standard.
