On the 23rd of March 2019, Aprilia exclusively unveiled the limited Aprilia RSV4 X at Mugello circuit during Aprilia All-Stars. Aprilia chose Malaysia for its first Asian debut which happened on the 2nd of January 2020 with Max Biaggi.
RSV4 X is a part of Aprilia Racing’s factory work programme. The aim is to cater to the need for riders who seek at a high-level in-production derived championships or want an RSV4 optimised for track-use.
In 2019, the ten units of the Aprilia RSV4 X ever produced sold-out within a few hours. The commemorative version is based on the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory, developed to celebrate ten years since the birth of the first model which has won various WSBK titles. The price tag on this purpose-built track-oriented bike was 39,000 Euro/ RM 178,300. The lucky buyers who booked have already started collecting their track monster straight from Aprilia racing department in Noale.
Why is the Aprilia RSV4 X Unique?
The Aprilia RSV4 X, developed by Aprilia Racing, produces a whopping 225HP while weighing only 165 Kg (Dry). It is the most powerful and lightest bike ever made. RSV4 X is also the first motorcycle to feature a gearbox with neutral below first gear and Brembo GP-MS callipers.
Weight Reduction
Aprilia Racing attained the astonishing dry weight of 165 Kg by selecting a series of refined, lightweight components. The most noticeable carbon flaring ad lightweight tank enhanced with 2019 MotoGP RS-GP inspired livery stands out first. Furthermore, the bike features a racing panel, used to adjust the RSV4’s electronic controls.
Billet aluminium parts such as the clutch lever, the front brake lever guard, the engine sump guard the adjustable footpegs and the upper steering plate are all over the bike to help further save weight. Pirelli slicks wrapping around Marchesini forged magnesium wheels also improves the handling of the RSV4.
Engine
The 1100cc V4 engine developed and tuned by Aprilia Racing gets special treatment. The hand-built engine is fine-tuned for all tolerances just as the competition engines. To allow for the use of aggressive SBK- derived cam profiles, the distribution system is overhauled with the help of new intake camshafts, new valve return springs and caps, as well as brand-new rounded bucket tappets.
The bike comes with an Akropovic exhaust system which features a carbon outlet and titanium collectors. The RSV4 X’s filter replaced by a waterproof, sprint filter element. The same as the one used in MotoGP as it provides the highest permeability in the market. Specific ECU mapping manages dedicated track settings. These components increase the power output from the already outstanding 217 HP to an impressive 225 HP.
Drivetrain and Brakes
For the very first time, the MotoGP and SBK derived ANN system (Aprilia No Neutral), gearbox with neutral below first gear is available now to the public. The use of this is to speed up the shifting from first to second and to prevent any up-shifting errors.
In addition, the Brembo GP4-MS billet calliper with the combination of a pair of steel discs and T-Drive technology with the control of 19X16 radial billet pump is the first in the market. Brembo chose the Aprilia RSV4 X as the first motorcycle to debut their highly efficient and sophisticated BremboGP4-MS braking system.
The Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory and Aprilia’s Future Plans
To sum it up, the Aprilia RSV4 1100 based RSV4 X factory share the same counterpart. From chassis to the engine to the outlook the RSV4 X and the RSV4 1100 factory are identical. Although the RSV4 X sold out within a few hours, the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory, homologated for road use is still available in the market. With the price of only RM 159,900 at any local Malaysian Aprilia dealers.
Max Biaggi will be testing this machine around Sepang International circuit from the 3rd to 5th January 2020. Moreover, Aprilia owners could get an exclusive chance to join the test during the track day on 4th January 2019.
