January 29, 2020

Honda’s answer to Kawasaki’s inline-4 monster, ZX-25R debut last year is the 2020 Honda CBR250RR. The new model boasts more power in comparison to the current model. Also new for 2020, Honda has added more goodies and a new white colour scheme to the lineup.

The 250cc sportbike category is starting to turn back how they were back in the 90s. Especially with the arrival of the all-new Kawasaki ZX-25R brings back riders the taste of the legendary 90s ZXR250.

The 250cc inline Kawasaki monster was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last year.  The direct rival, Honda CBR250RR for this year boasts more power, added features and a new colour scheme according to the rumours.

The Japanese website Young Machine recently posted some pictures and specs of the 2020 Honda CBR250RR. During the product briefing for Honda Dealers, the information about the new 2020 Honda CBR250RR leaked out.

The Leaks

According to Young Machine, the latest 2020 model would be producing a whopping 41Hp from the 249.7cc parallel-twin engine. Which is three more compared to the current bike which produces a class-leading 38.2Hp at 12,500 rpm. This makes the two-cylinder monster Honda CBR250RR a direct rival to the 45Hp  in-line four ZX-25R.

New for 2020, the bike is rumoured to feature quick shifter with auto-blipper, slipper clutch and smart key technology. Furthermore, it features an LCD dash the same as the one from CBR500R.

On top of this, the bike would still feature throttle by wire with three riding modes (Comfort, Sport, and Sport+) as the previous models.  As for ABS, it is still unclear if Honda would be rolling out with both ABS and non-ABS variants.

As for the colour scheme, the Honda CBR250RR 2020 would most likely come out with gold wheels as standard and three colour options: black, HRC Tricolour, and white with the red frame.

In the case of the pricing, according to Young Magazine, they expect the standard black colour would cost 847,000 yen and  880,000 yen for the Tricolour variant. According to the leaks, the 2020 Honda CBR 250 RR would be rolling out by July 2020.

The previous model was officially available only in Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau and Thailand. We hope Boon Siew Honda brings the 2020 model down to Malaysia this year.
