Renowned carbon fiber wheel manufacturers BST revealed their first motorcycle. The BST Hypertek is an electric madness with a high price tag!
The EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show is the place to go if you want to see some crazy bikes. This year’s edition wasn’t any different. At EICMA we saw some crazy projects with two wheels. And wheels are exactly what we need to talk about on the Hypertek.
That’s because the Hypertek is the creation of Blackstone Tek or BST. BST manufacturers carbon fiber wheels for motorcycles. And they’ve decided it was time to build an electric motorcycle.
They’ve teamed up with designer Pierre Terblanche. He’s known to be the man behind the Ducati Supermoto, 749 and 999 just to mention a few. Terblanche surprised everyone with a futuristic and industrial design.
We can’t say that the Hypertek is beautiful. But it certainly has very interesting design elements.
On such a special motorcycle BST hasn’t used conventional components. For example, they haven’t used a dashboard. Instead, they sourced a special helmet from the Japanese company CrossHelmet. The X1 helmet has a head-up display.
Inside the monocoque carbon fiber frame, there are batteries and the electric motor. It’s a DHX Hawk motor with a power of 80 kW and 120 Nm of torque. The batteries are good for a 300 km range before recharging on a special charge station. Charging the BST Hypertek takes just 30 minutes.
Of course, BST used carbon fiber in many of the Hypertek components. The wheels and outer tubes of the front fork are made in carbon fiber. The fork is made from a single component and includes the triple clamp.
BST says that they’ll start production in 18 months. They won’t be making many Hypertek so this electric motorcycle has the potential to be very desirable for collectors. And then there’s the question of price.
BST hasn’t confirmed the price but rumors say that the Hypertek will cost around RM 331.684.
