Repsol Honda Team aims for Triple Crown in Sepang this weekend

Repsol Honda Team aims for Triple Crown in Sepang this weekend

The penultimate race will be held in Sepang, Malaysia and Repsol Honda Team is not stopping their momentum!

After a historic win in Phillip Island, Australia, Repsol Honda Team is not backing down from their victorious streak. With Marc Marquez securing the 2019 riders’ title and Honda clinching the constructors’ championship this year, the Triple Crown is still wide open and ready for the contest. The team will be taking on the Malaysian Grand Prix this weekend to showcase their abilities.

The Malaysian GP will be the penultimate race of the season. It is held at the Sepang International Circuit every year since its inauguration in 1999. The race has been a constant fixture in the MotoGP World Championship for race and testing ever since. It is 5.5km long with a physically challenging structure that can be demanding for the riders. Not to mention, despite it being the rainy season, the air temperature on the track rarely drops below 30ºC even when the tropical storms hit.

Both Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo will be hoping for better performance in Sepang. Marquez concedes that Yamaha and Ducati will be of strong competition whereas Lorenzo is aiming to bounce back from his difficult weekend in Australia. Lorenzo has finished on the premier class podium seven times in Malaysia.

“We enjoyed a great victory in Australia as me, the Repsol Honda Team and the bike are working very well together. Now we arrive at the last race of the triple, but it’s not time to stop and relax. Sepang is another track where I think Yamaha will be fast, as will Ducati, but the target is of course to try and fight for victory again. We will see how the weekend goes and adapt as we need to,” says Marquez as quoted from Honda Racing Corporation.

“Sepang is a track where I have had good success in the past. Earlier this year I was not able to test in Sepang because of my training injury, but my team were there testing so already we have some ideas of what to do with the bike. Compared to Australia, the circuit in Malaysia should suit me more and I think we will be able to get back to where we were in Motegi. We will see how the weekend progresses there.”
