MotoGP – New rules for jumpstarts and sliders

MotoGP – New rules for jumpstarts and sliders

The World Championship adopts new sporting and technical rules for MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 classes.

Although for the last couple of years the World Championship rules remained mostly unchanged, giving the championship a sense of stability, there’s always the need for improvement.

From a meeting held in Austria’s Red Bull Ring circuit, the Grand Prix Commission announced a new set of technical and sporting rules.

Sporting Regulations
Black Flag with Orange Disk : Riders who are required to leave the track by display of this flag must be authorized by an official to re-join the track. This rule is effective immediately.
Jumpstarts: The fixed penalty for a jump start is changed from a pit lane ride through to the obligation to perform two “long laps”. The long laps must be completed within five laps of the rider being notified of the penalty.

Technical Regulations

Moto3 and Moto2 Class Tyres: Riders proceeding from Qualifying Practice 1 to Qualifying Practice 2 will now receive an additional front tyre. Such riders already receive an additional rear tyre. This change is effective immediately.

Materials Used in “Sliders”: With immediate effect it is prohibited to manufacture or modify knee or other sliders to include any material that, when in contact with the track surface, may cause a visual disturbance to other riders.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
