Ducati Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916 – The perfect tribute to an icon

Ducati Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916 – The perfect tribute to an icon

25 years after the 916 was launched, Ducati reveals the perfect tribute to this icon. The Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916 is here… and it’s gorgeous!

Ducati Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916

Ducati was present at the Laguna Seca World Superbike round this weekend to race, but also to reveal their latest special and limited edition. The Ducati Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916 is the perfect tribute to an icon. The Italian brand says only 500 units will be built and delivered to the whole world, making this an extremely special bike for collectors.

A lot of motorcycle manufacturers have special editions of some of their most important models. But it seems that Ducati really knows how to do really special bikes. At Pebble Beach, USA, Ducati revealed their latest special bike, a special version of the Panigale V4 that marks the 25th anniversary of the iconic 916 designed by Massimo Tamburini.

To create this limited edition Panigale, Ducati started with a Panigale V4 S. This means the Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916 gets the same Desmosedici Stradale V4 engine. With 1103 cc it delivers 214 hp and a massive 124 Nm!

In the case of the 25 Anniversario 916, Ducati installs an STM EVO-SBK dry clutch taken from the race-ready V4 R. The V4 engine also gets to breathe a little better through the Akrapovic titanium exhaust. This exhaust is lighter than stock and gives the V4 better exhaust note.

The new Ducati Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916 also gets input from Ducati Corse. The front frame is machined to obtain more flexibility and to be lighter than stock frame. This will allow the rider to get a better feeling from the steering and front tyre.

Although the V4 S electronic Öhlins suspensions are retained without any changes, the same can’t be said about the wheels. Ducati installs on the Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916 a set of Marchesini Racing magnesium forged wheels. Much lighter than the aluminum forged on the V4 S and with an exclusive racing design.

Since this limited-edition Panigale is a tribute to the iconic 916, Ducati also decided to cover the 25 Anniversario 916 with a special paint scheme and graphics.

Back in 1994 when the 916 was released, Ducati decided to race that bike in the World Championship. Carl Fogarty rode the bike to glory winning four riders titles. So, the Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916 gets its inspiration from the 916 SBK race bike. The Ducati Red color is used throughout the fairings, but the lower section of the fuel tank is in black.

The side fairings and the front get a #1 on a white background, just like the bike of Fogarty used to have. “King” Carl Fogarty was present on stage during the reveal and was amazed at how the Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916 looked.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
