BMW R nineT /5 – Celebrating the /5 series and the Berlin factory

BMW R nineT /5 – Celebrating the /5 series and the Berlin factory

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the start of production at the Berlin factory of the /5 series, BMW Motorrad launches the R nineT /5 special edition.

BMW Motorrad R nineT /5

The Berlin Spandau factory started production of BMW Motorrad bikes in 1969. 50 years ago the production started with the /5 series. This series of motorcycles included the R 50/5, R 60/5 and R 75/5 models. Now, 50 years later, BMW Motorrad revisits the /5 series with the new R nineT /5 special edition.

Taking us back to the end of the ’60s, the R nineT /5 comes with a set of special features:

– 2 into 1 stainless steel exhaust with chrome headers and silencer;

– Chrome mirrors;

– Fuel tank with knee-pads;

– Lupine Blue color in fuel tank and mudguard with smoked effect;

– Double seat with white pipes;

– Front forks, wheel hubs, wheel spokes in Aluminum Silver;

– Forged aluminum components;

– An emblem on the fuel tank celebrating the “50 Years of the /5 series”.

Besides these features, the BMW Motorrad R nineT /5 is a normal R nineT neo-retro naked. The boxer engine remains untouched. It’s air-cooled and delivers 110 hp, and BMW Motorrad will install from factory some riding aids. Brakes come with ABS, ASC stability control is standard, and for comfort in colder days, it comes with heated grips.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
