BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy heads to New Zealand

BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy heads to New Zealand

After visiting Mongolia for the 2018 edition, this year’s BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy will change its course and head down to New Zealand. The destination was recently revealed by the German brand, with the organization already revealing that the event will feature a female team as it happened in the 2016 and 2018 editions.

The BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy is a unique and special adventure competition, aimed at riders from all around the world. 18 international teams will travel to the fantastic landscapes of New Zealand to face many challenges presented by the organization and also by the terrain.

Registration for the qualifying events that will be held at each country that will have a team in this competition will open soon, and after the qualifying is done, we will get to know the names of the riders that will enter the International GS Trophy 2020, with a cool motto: “Destination Paradise”.

The seventh edition of the International GS Trophy will happen early 2020, with almost 60 riders joining the adventure.

The event is not a race but a team competition, pitching the GS-riding international contingent against each other in a series of challenges – and not all involve riding. With the competitors camped nightly in a bivouac, the event also fosters a sense of brotherhood, sisterhood, and camaraderie. Equally the GS Trophy is a celebration of culture and nature, the riders learning about and understanding the peoples and the terrains of the regions they encounter. So the successful team will be respectful of the environment, skillful and sympathetic with their machinery and understanding of team-mates.

For now, BMW Motorrad is keeping tight lips as to which is the bike chosen for the New Zealand edition, but the German manufacturer has vowed to announce the bike very soon, as well as what type of equipment will be made available to each team during the event.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
