Dakar 2019 – Toby Price gives KTM their 18th consecutive win!

Dakar 2019 – Toby Price gives KTM their 18th consecutive win!

Toby Price celebrates his second victory on the Dakar Rally!

It was a fantastic end to a great Dakar Rally! Australian Toby Price, battling with a broken wrist for most of the second part of the race, has won his second Dakar after winning the final Stage 10 that took the riders from Pisco to Lima, a special stage with a little more than 100 km to run.

With this victory, Price is the rider that has his name linked to the 18th consecutive victory for KTM on the Dakar, a fantastic winning streak for the Austrian manufacturer, even though their main rivals Honda and Yamaha are giving all they have every year.

On this last stage, Toby Price had a 1m02s lead over Chilean Pablo Quintanilla. The Husqvarna rider had a tough mission to take the win away from Price, and he messed up big time with just 10 km into Stage 10. Quintanilla crashed, and delivered Price the win.

But the Australian wasn’t happy to win the Dakar 2019 without another stage victory, and blistered through the Peruvian dunes to finish the day as the fastest rider, followed by Jose Ignacio Cornejo (Honda), with Matthias Walkner taking another factory KTM to the stage podium in third.

This meant that Toby Price secured the much desired win with an advantage of 9m13s over his teammate Matthias Walkner, who delivered another 1-2 to KTM, making the most of the crash suffered by Pablo Quintanilla, who lost the final second spot and finishes the Dakar Rally in third, delivering a good result for Husqvarna.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
