Colin Edwards becomes Akrapovic ambassador

Colin Edwards becomes Akrapovic ambassador
Bruno Gomes
December 21, 2018

Former MotoGP and World Superbike rider, and a fan favorite, Colin Edwards was named by Slovenian exhaust specialists Akrapovic to become their new ambassador for the two-wheel world.

This decision from Akrapovic, it’s a way to celebrate Colin Edwards racing career and the fact that he was the one that conquered the first world title for the Slovenian brand, using one of their exhaust systems aboard the Honda VTR 1000 SP1, back in 2000, when the “Texas Tornado” won the World Superbike championship riding for Honda Castrol.

Edwards connection to Akrapovic goes well beyond World Superbike, with the Amercian rider competing in MotoGP with bikes featuring Akrapovic exhausts, and he also won the famous Suzuka 8 Hours race with Honda, using these exhausts.

He’s the first motorcycle rider to become Akrapovic ambassador.

It’s not hard to understand why Akrapovic decided to nominate the Colin as their ambassador: He’s been racing for years with different motorcycle manufacturers and in different championships, and he’s known all over the world for his development skills. Those skills helped Akrapovic improve their race exhaust systems, and ultimately, to improve the aftermarket exhausts we can buy to install on our own bikes.

He recently visited Akrapovic factory in Slovenia as a surprise to Akrapovic employees, and Igor Akrapovic, founder and owner of the company, thanked him by giving Colin Edwards name to one of the conference rooms they have in the factory.

Not only Akrapovic guarantees they keep Colin Edwards as part of the family, with the former MotoGP and World Superbike rider expected to show up in motorcycling events promoting Akrapovic exhausts, but for us riders, this means that we will probably be able to benefit from the Texas Tornado knowledge, as Akrapovic will surely use his talent to help create better exhausts for road bikes.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
