It’s not a surprise to anyone that historic British motorcycle manufacturer Norton was about to unveil their new mid-sized models, aimed at allowing the common rider to buy one of these premium bikes. And today, finally, the Atlas was revealed by the brand that has Stuart Garner at its helm.
The Atlas 650 divides itself into two variants: the Nomad and the Ranger.
Sharing the same components like the tubular steel frame, aluminium swingarm and spoke wheels, the parallel twin-cylinder engine is also the same for both of them, developing a maximum power output of 85 hp. The engine is derived from the V4 RR unit, so it should rev up quite nicely and deliver heaps of fun to the rider.
Even though the Atlas embraces the scrambler appearance, the Nomad gets 18’’ front wheel while the Ranger gets a slightly bigger 19’’ wheel for some off-road riding, and a longer travel suspension to absorb bigger bumps.
For Norton, the arrival of the Atlas 650 means they’ll be able to sell bikes to regular costumers and not only to those that have more money, like what happens with the exotic superbike V4 RR. These models are aimed to be sold at lower price range (not confirmed yet), and that means the small British manufacturer will be able to put a lot more bikes on the road that they’re able right now.
