New Harley-Davidson FXDR 114 set to power the road!

New Harley-Davidson FXDR 114 set to power the road!

August 28, 2018

We are still a few months from entering 2019, but American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson has shown what they’ll be offering to riders around the world next year. And they’ve done a lot of work refreshing they line-up – see here the new CVO range – and including even more technology on their bikes, as well as strengthening their genuine accessories and clothing range.

Apart from the three new CVO models that we’ve already covered in a separate article, there’s also a brand-new model coming into Harley dealerships next year: the FXDR 114.

This is a power cruiser that will bring the Harley-Davidson brand to a whole new level of performance. The FDXR 114 is fitted with the powerful Milwaukee-Eight V-Twin engine, the 114 cubic inch version, for a strong power and torque delivery throughout the rev range.

Not only the FXDR 114 has a lot of power but is also features a brand-new chassis. Harley worked overtime to reduce the weight of this power cruiser to the bare minimum, and to do that the Milwaukee factory installed a new swingarm made in aluminium, which was also used in the subframe, while the lightweight wheels and composite mudguards also help to lower the weight of the bike that has a really strong and masculine design.

Visually, the FXDR 114 communicates its commitment to performance through design inspirations from the drag strip – from a moulded speed screen to a clipped tail section and solo seat. The rear mudguard is shaped to hug a massive 240 mm tyre and moves with the tyre through the range of the suspension, so becomes almost invisible when the FXDR 114 is in motion.

But this new bike from Harley-Davidson isn’t only for straight line performance, and the strong – and rigid – Softail chassis and premium suspension components will reward assertive riders with thrilling agility when riding through twisting backroads and navigating congested urban traffic. The FXDR 114 offers more lean angle than any other Softail model, something every rider will surely appreciate.

There are also new technologies coming to the 2019 Touring and Trike range.

Not only some select Touring and Trike models are going to get the Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine, but Harley-Davidson will also install on select models the new new Boom! Box GTS infotainment system with durability and features designed specifically for motorcycling, plus Apple CarPlay compatibility (when a microphone is in use with optional Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories headsets) and hands-free voice recognition.

For the Trike range – Freewheeler and Tri-Glide Ultra – there’s also a new dynamic package.

Not only they’ll get a new electronic Reflex Linked Brake system, combining ABS, traction control, drag-torque slip control and linked front and rear brake system, but they’ll also benefit from the use of a new Touring suspension unit that will allow the riders to feel better ride quality and allow at the same time an easy adjustment of the spring preload.

But 2019 won’t only be used to bring new models to the road, and Harley-Davidson also worked to allow customers to customize their bikes with new original accessories.

For example, there’s a new 7-inch Daymaker Adaptative LED headlight that utilizes patented sensors and electronics integrated into the headlight to determine lean angle of the motorcycle, and automatically project additional light into corners to illuminate areas of the road that may be unlit by traditional LED headlights. Those riding moment at night will surely become much more pleasant than ever before!

There’s also a new customization program called the Dominion Collection, allowing customers to personalize individual motorcycle components with colors and materials like brushed aluminium. And for those looking to extract a bit more performance from their H-D engines, the new Screamin’ Eagle stage upgrades will allow every rider to chose how they want their engine to perform.

But Harley isn’t just a motorcycle manufacturer, so, to emphasize the launch of the new FDXR 114, the Motorcycle Company also created a range of clothing called FXDR Collection, which is divided in two variants: Urban or Touring.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
