Lee Munro to imitate his great-uncle at the Bonneville Salt Flats

The pursue of a speed record continues to be alive in the Munro family, and after Burt Munro became famous for his heroic efforts while setting a new world land-speed record in 1967, with a home built Indian Scout, his great-nephew is aiming to do the same in this year’s Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

At this famous event that starts today and will last until August 17th, Lee Munro will be aiming to become the next fastest rider of an Indian Scout. For this attempt though, Lee will have a lot more help than his great-uncle did at the time, and Indian decided to jump aboard the project so that the Scout hits 321.8 km/h, the famous 200 miles per hour mark.

Lee Munro’s Indian will run in the Modified Partial Streamline 1350 cc class, and the special fairing was designed and built by Indian, using a team of their own engineers led by Wayne Kolden and Dan Gervais.

The bike of course, is appropriately named “Spirit of Munro”, and everyone is anxious to see if Lee Munro hits the record speed at the Salt Flats.
