KTM teases us with the 790 Adventure R prototype

KTM teases us with the 790 Adventure R prototype

The Austrian brand will be showing in EICMA, Milan, next November, a bunch of new models and for those of us that enjoy riding off road KTM is getting ready to let us get in adventure mode with at least two new models: the 390 Adventure and the middleweight 790 Adventure.

After the first spy photos showed up on the internet showing how both models will look like, at least in prototype shape but very close to its final design, KTM took advantage of all the hype created surrounding the new Adventure models to continue to tease is a bit more.

In Sardinia, Italy, during the Adventure Rally in the end of June, KTM showed to the participants the prototype of the off road focused version of the 790 Adventure. As expected, the new 790 Adventure R will receive a host of features to make it easier for riders to enjoy off road riding.

The information released by KTM indicates that this 790 Adventure R will get a new large capacity fuel tank that will allow the bike to cover at least 400 km before needing to refill. The tank itself will be extended downwards on the bike to help lower the center of gravity, and the seat height will also be lower than usual to allow all kind of riders to enjoy the bike without any problems, even in rough terrain.

Large diameter wheels covered in specific tyres are also part of the R version, as will be a set of WP suspensions with the possibility to adjust the settings. The brakes will be from Brembo, four piston calipers, and KTM will be fitting an ABS system with off road modes, as well as a complete electronics package featuring traction control and other riding modes.

This new KTM 790 Adventure R is being developed alongside the factory 450 Rally bike that the Austrian brand uses on the Dakar Rally, so we should expect it to be a big contender on off road events.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
