Aprilia is going full race mode for next generation RSV4

Aprilia is going full race mode for next generation RSV4

Introduced in 2009, the RSV4 has become a force to be reckoned with when we talk about the best superbike available in the market today, and through the years the V4 machine has suffered numerous updates to make her ready to battle for the title of best superbike.

But even all the updates in the world won’t hide the fact that the RSV4 is almost 10 years old.

So, to get the RSV4 up to specs to the current generation of superbikes, and after Ducati changed to a V4 engine for the latest Panigale going well over the 200 hp barrier, Aprilia is going into full race mode for the next generation RSV4!

According to many sources from Italy, the Noale based manufacturer is developing a completely new RSV4, a bike that will be based on the MotoGP prototype used by Aprilia riders Aleix Espargaró and Scott Redding.

Following what Ducati has done – developing a V4 engine for the road with 1103 cc and a V4 1000 cc engine for race homologation -, Aprilia will also make a V4 engine with 1100 cc to use not on the Tuono V4 like we see nowadays, but on the RSV4.

The expected power increase is of 15 hp comparing to the current 999 cc engine, and that will put the new RSV4 in the 215 hp mark. Adding to the power boost, Aprilia will also lower the weight (expect 7 kg less, at least) and a completely new frame design to get better handling.

As for the expected time of arrival for the new RSV4, many believe Aprilia will show the bike at the next EICMA show in November being a 2019 model, but some reports point to the fact that Aprilia won’t be ready to show the bike until the end of 2019, making the RSV4 a 2020 model.

For the moment there’s no more information about the next generation of the RSV4, and all we have are some photoshop images, like the one by Todo o Circuito website that we show you in this article, of how some people believe the new bike might look like.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
