Swiss students create the electric motorcycle Ethec

Fourteen students of the University of Zurich, Switzerland, have been tasked to create a product as part of an assignment, and what they created was the Ethec, an electric motorcycle that has a range of a little over 400 km.

The team was composed by mechanical and electrical engineers, so the design wasn’t the biggest priority.

But Ethec offers much more than meets the eye: the massive lithium-ion 15 kWh battery is installed in the monobody unit, and the team installed a motor to the front wheel in order to recover the energy dissipated during braking times.

To cool the battery, Ethec uses an intricate oil cooling system, while the rider will be in total control of what’s happening to the bike through a 7’’ screen with navigation included, and the bike starts at the push of a button.

We’re not sure what to think about the looks, but if Ethec is really able to reach a range of over 400 km as announced, than this will be another step in the right direction for electric two-wheelers.
