SBK Laguna Seca – Jonathan Rea completes dream weekend

SBK Laguna Seca – Jonathan Rea completes dream weekend

After winning Race 1, Kawasaki Racing Team rider Jonathan Rea did it again in Laguna Seca, and won Race 2 in big style making the double at the Californian racetrack. Rea, with the second victory of the weekend, has increased the lead in the championship standings, and the title is at his grasp.

Despite starting from row three this second race of the World Superbike championship in Laguna Seca, Rea wasted no time to get himself up there at the front of the race, chasing Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia). He then followed Laverty until lap eight, when he decided to make a move for the lead.

He made the move stick, and from then on it was another typical performance from Jonathan Rea, without any mistake, escaping for the eight win of the season.

Behind the Kawasaki rider, Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Ducati) also came from the back of the grid to secure another podium in Laguna Seca, but despite the Ducati rider being able to pass Eugene Laverty, he couldn’t prevent Rea from extending the advantage in the standings to 75 points.

Eugene Laverty had the best weekend so far this season, and led the race for eight laps before being passed by Jonathan Rea, and later by Chaz Davies. But this was the first time the Aprilia showed pace to run with the best of the World Superbike championship, and this was the first time this season Laverty got to the podium with a third position.

With just five rounds to go, Jonathan Rea holds a 75-point advantage over Chaz Davies. The championship now enters its usual Summer break, before we enter the final stretch of the season that will end in Qatar.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
