MotoGP – Marc Marquez on track to equal Casey Stoner

Marc Marquez continues to add wins to his record, and a victory in Le Mans makes him equal Casey Stoner number of wins in MotoGP

Having won the MotoGP race in Jerez, Marc Marquez has equaled the number of wins of Mike Hailwood (37). But next weekend in Le Mans, the champion will be able to equal another MotoGP legend: Casey Stoner.

If Marquez wins at Le Mans, he will achieve 38 victories in MotoGP, the same number as Casey Stoner who raced for Ducati and Honda between 2006 and 2012. At 25 years of age, the Spanish rider from the Repsol Honda team continues to climb the ladder of MotoGP records.

Marc Marquez will arrive at Le Mans having won the last two MotoGP races – Austin and Jerez – and he is now the championship leader with a 12-point advantage over Johann Zarco.

The French racetrack isn’t one of the best tracks for Marquez to add another win to his record, because he always seems to suffer to get the best results there. But this year he arrives in France in the best shape possible, and he is a clear favorite for the win.

If Marquez wins again next Sunday, he climbs another spot on the list of riders with most wins in the top class of motorcycle racing. Next on the list is Jorge Lorenzo (44 wins) who he can still equal this season, while to beat Mick Doohan (54 wins), Giacomo Agostini (68 wins) and Valentino Rossi (89 wins), Marc Marquez will need to wait a little more.
