Zero sees their new anti-theft system at work because of idiot thieves!

Zero Motorcycles and Datatool saw their tracking system at work in an unexpected way!

Thieves are one of the worst kind of people. They take advantage of what someone else has and steal it so they can gain something with that. And it doesn’t matter where you live, if you have a motorcycle, you probably won’t go to sleep without wondering if some thieve will take your bike during the night.

Usually thieves are pretty ingenious on how they steal motorcycles, but sometimes they’re just idiots who make a mistake and get caught!

That’s exactly what happened in London, where Zero Motorcycles just finished a deal with British bike security firm Datatool.

Zero Motorcycles UK had been testing a new security system on their electric bikes, and just one day after they showed their dealers the advantages of using the tracking system from Datatool at a conference, Zero had two motorcycles stolen during the night from the back of a van in London.

What the thieves didn’t realize was that those particular units had the tracking system from Datatool on them, and when Dale Robinson, Zero UK’s manager, noticed the two missing bikes in the morning, he immediately put the tracking system to work

“I reported the theft at 8h00am and the data confirmed that the bike was stolen at 3h37am” said Dale. “Datatool collaborated with the Police stolen vehicle squad, and the bikes were tracked to within a meter of their actual location, under a tarpaulin in a timber yard. The police extraction team commented that the information given to them, in the form of a pinpointed Google map and exact coordinates, was the most accurate they had received and I got a call to come and pick the bikes up a few hours later”.

Not only Zero Motorcycles and Datatool had a real life test on their anti-theft system – and recovered the test electric bikes -, but the thieves learned a lesson and got caught.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
