Suzuki registers the name Katana… again!

Suzuki registers the name Katana… again!

The Katana 3.0 Concept made by Rodolfo Frascoli

This isn’t the first time Suzuki has done it, but the fact that the Japanese brand continues to tease us with the Katana project means that Suzuki is really interested in bringing the iconic Katana back on the streets.

This time around Suzuki has registered the Katana name in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and since 2010 it’s the third time they’ve done it.

Late last year Suzuki showed us a concept developed by Italian designer Rodolfo Frascoli, the Katana 3.0 Concept, based on a GSX-S1000F, and that sent the Katana fans the idea that there’s a project within the Hamamatsu factory for a new generation of the Katana. To add more speculation on this subject, Suzuki also registered the name in the United States and also in Europe, together with the logo representing the samurai sword.

So, Suzuki registering the name and logo for the Katana means we will really see the comeback of this bike?

The straightest answer to this question is that the return of the Katana is very likely to happen in the near future.

The Katana 3.0 Concept is based on the current Suzuki GSX-S1000F

Probably Suzuki is still thinking of how the name Katana will be applied: maybe they will apply it to a model that already exists in their current line-up, but we know that the turbocharged GSX-S700T is coming soon, and that bike somewhat resembles the lines of the Katana 3.0 Concept.

So, a GSX-S700T Katana isn’t so farfetched after all.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
