Indian Motorcycle is in the midst of producing a new special edition Black Hills Silver bike in order to honour the past of the Black Hills and the brand’s connection to them.
There is only limited production of 350 of the Indian Chieftain Elite style bike. It features an award-winning V-twin motor that is capable of delivering 119 lb/sq ft of torque. It also has a seven-inch glove compatible touchscreen display, Pinnacle mirrors, aluminum billet floorboard, genuine leather seats and a tinted flare windshield as standard along with customizable upgrades and add-ons.
The special edition bike boasts hand painted marbled inlays in Spearfish and are unique to every bike. The paint job takes about 12 coats of paint and over 20 hours for completion.
“It’s right in our own back yard; named after our own back yard,” Lauren Hensley, general manager of Indian Motorcycle in Sturgis said of the bike. “To celebrate the heritage of our country and the hard workers that were in the Black Hills.”
Indian Motorcycle has been linked to Black Hills, and Sturgis since someone named Clarence “Pappy” Hoel purchased an Indian Motorcycle franchise in Sturgis in 1936 which evolved into a grand presence in the motorcycle industry.
