Italian brand Cagiva is shaking up the automotive world and coming back with new electric off-road motorcycles. Prototypes will be arriving around Fall at the EICMA, according to Giovanni Castiglioni, Chief Executive Officer of the Cagiva’s brand’s rights holder MV Agusta. The news was announced during the press launch of the 2018 Brutale 800RR.
Cagiva made its debut in the industry in 1978 and was well-known for its Grand Prix road racing and off-road racing in motocross and victories in the Dakar Rally in 1990 and 1994 skyrocketed its fame, notably the Cagiva Elefant.
Cagiva made it to its prime time in 1985 by securing Ducati and produced motorcycles under the Duc name. Later years it managed to acquire rights to Moto Morini, Husqvarna and now, MV Agusta as its primary brand.
The brand is ready for a comeback with new and much greater bikes. Details of the bikes are rather scant but it is expected to be lightweight electric off-road bikes, bearing resemblance to the Alta electric bikes.
Whether can Cagiva flourish during its return, will depend on its new ideas for their electric bikes. The brand has carved its name in the high end of the spectrum and definitely gives bikers high expectations. Nevertheless, we anticipate the day we hear from the brand regarding further details. Stay tuned for more updates.
