Following on from the teaser video released just a couple of days ago, the 2018 TVS Apache RR 310 has finally made its debut in its home market of India. The firm’s first fully-faired motorcycle represents a major step in a new direction for the Chennai-based manufacturer as it looks to dip its feet into the super-premium motorcycle segment.

“The TVS Apache RR 310 is the most advanced and exclusive offering in our product portfolio, as it is a manifestation of 35 years of learnings from the race track, coupled with cutting-edge technology. We are confident that customers will find it to be a perfect combination of racecraft technology and riding dynamics,” said Sudarshan Venu, Joint Managing Director of TVS Motor Company.

It’s more than just marketing speak, really. The 2018 TVS Apache RR 310 encompasses everything the firm has learned in its 35 years of motorsport involvement. For starters, the motorcycle features a lightweight trellis frame matched to, what most people would agree as, pretty attractive bodywork.

“Driven by our promise of delivering more to customers than their expectations, the TVS Apache RR 310 is the beginning of our breakthrough into the super-premium category,” commented K N Radhakrishnan, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TVS Motor Company. “The TVS Apache RR 310 is the most advanced and exclusive offering in our product portfolio, as it is a manifestation of 35 years of learnings from the race track, coupled with cutting-edge technology,” he added.

Extra details that hint at the bike’s track-ready intentions include a rear number plate holder that is easily removable for circuit work. Also, the bike features clip type fasteners for the fairing assembly to increase accessibility for service and maintenance work. Lighting system is comprised of twin LED projectors for the headlights while the LED taillights feature a rather dashing ‘Omega’ styling cue.

Now, on to the main attraction – the engine! Some of you may know that this particular motorcycle is somewhat related to the BMW G 310 R and as a result, it shares the same 312 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that pumps out a total of 34 PS at 9,700 rpm and 27 Nm of torque at 7,700 rpm. Power gets to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox with final drive by chain. Performance figures include a 0-100km/h time of just 2.9 seconds and a top speed of (give or take) 160km/h!

Elsewhere, the Kayaba suspension set up is comprised of a 41mm upside down fork and a monoshock adjustable for preload. Wheel size is 110/70/R17 and 150/60/R17, front and rear, respectively. Said wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Street tyres and according to the firm, this is the first sub-500 cc motorcycle to be equipped with it in its home market. Kerb weight is rated at 169.5kg while seat height is quoted at 810 mm.

As for the braking system, the 2018 TVS Apache RR 310 is equipped with a 300 mm front and 240 mm rear disc brake, clamped by radial-mounted calipers. Dual-channel ABS by Continental is also available as standard. Unfortunately for fans of stoppies, the ABS cannot be disabled. As a result, TVS touts best-in-class braking performance.

As for the cockpit layout, a unique, fully-digital vertical LCD screen displays all the necessary information such as engine temperature, fuel levels and selected gear. Also, hazard lights are standard on the 2018 TVS Apache RR 310. Two colour schemes are available at launch, Racing Red and Sinister Black. Prices for the motorcycle begin at Rs 2.05 lakh (RM12,974) with deliveries scheduled to begin not long after.
