Honda take it up a notch with all new 2018 CRF250R

Just recently, the 2018 Honda CRF250R was officially revealed to the public at the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Nationals and it is deemed to be one of the most impressive Honda off-road bike in a span of ten years.

In order to cater to declining sales of the CRF250R, the brand came up with a motocross motorcycle complete different from last year’s edition. The motor and chassis of the CRF250R have been reconfigured and more power, rear grip and less front-end lift have been emphasized. Honda gave up on the single overhead cam design and replaced it with a DOHC valve train for the first time ever.

The bike gained six pounds in comparison to last year (222 without fuel). The new bike weighs 228 pounds but the additional weight is managed by the  lithium-ion battery in the airbox.

The new CRF250R is smoother off the bottom, with more midrange and top end power. All four valves are titanium with a more compact valve angle which allows more room for the new downdraft intake. Not to mention, the new airbox and intake system increases air-charging efficiency.

The bike features a titanium fuel tank and runs on a new single-system for the oil. It features a 1250cc engine rather than 1600cc to save 11 ounces of weight. There is also a new clutch and there are now two friction materials which provide better feel.

It also features three engine modes which two can be remapped. Standard is fixed, and you can opt for either Smooth or Aggressive too. As for the tires, the CRF250R rolls out in style with the Dunlop Geomax MX3S.
