Suzuki’s new SV-7GX bridges the gap between sport and touring with a refined V-twin engine, advanced electronics, and everyday versatility.

Suzuki has officially unveiled the all-new SV-7GX at the EICMA motorcycle show in Italy, marking the arrival of a new crossover in the midweight segment. Drawing inspiration from the beloved SV650, the SV-7GX combines the sharp handling of a sportbike with the upright comfort and confidence of an adventure tourer.

Taking design inspiration from Suzuki’s larger GSX-S1000 GX, this new model is positioned precisely between the discontinued SV650 and the V-Strom 650. The result is a machine crafted for comprehensive road touring.

Powering the SV-7GX is Suzuki’s tried-and-true 645cc V-twin engine, familiar to fans of the SV650 and V-Strom 650. The engine receives several updates to its intake and exhaust systems to improve combustion and meet the latest Euro 5+ emission standards. Paired with a six-speed gearbox and bi-directional quickshifter, the engine delivers 72 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 64 Nm of torque at 6,800 rpm.

Electronic aids include ride-by-wire throttle and three riding modes—A (Active), B (Basic), and C (Comfort)—as well as Suzuki Traction Control that can be disabled for a more direct experience. The SV-7GX rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, emphasizing its road-focused nature. Suspension duties are handled by 41mm telescopic forks up front and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear, offering 125 mm and 129 mm of travel respectively.

Braking is managed by Tokico four-piston calipers up front with a 240 mm disc, complemented by a rear single-piston caliper and dual-channel ABS. The bike also features LED lighting throughout, hand guards, a three-position adjustable windshield, and a 4.2-inch full-color TFT display with smartphone connectivity and a USB-C port for charging and navigation.

Weighing in at 211 kg with a 17.4-litre fuel tank, and a 795 mm seat height, the SV-7GX strikes a practical balance for both spirited rides and long-distance touring.

As someone who’s a fan of the SV650 and has previously test-ridden the GSX-S1000 GX, this new SV-7GX feels like the perfect evolution of Suzuki’s midrange lineup and it’s definitely a model we can’t wait to test when it arrives in Malaysia.
