Yamaha Reveals AI-Powered MOTOROiD:Λ Concept Bike

Yamaha Reveals AI-Powered MOTOROiD:Λ Concept Bike

Yamaha’s new MOTOROiD:Λ electric motorcycle can balance, rotate 180 degrees, and learn from its rider using AI. The futuristic self-stabilizing bike debuts at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo.

The MOTOROiD:Λ (pronounced “Lambda”) takes inspiration from the earlier MOTOROiD2 project in 2023, but this time, Yamaha has gone further. The motorcycle’s arched, open frame connects the front and rear sections, allowing the back half to twist sideways mid-ride or when stationary.

Here’s where it gets wild. The bike uses artificial intelligence to control its movement, analyse how it’s performing, and even learn from its rider’s habits. Over time, it can make decisions on its own, adjusting speed, braking, and balance automatically. If it tips over or loses balance, it can lift itself upright again — no human help needed.

Built for Balance and Flexibility

Yamaha designed the MOTOROiD:Λ around a lightweight, flexible exoskeleton frame, giving it both strength and movement agility. Its sensors and motion arms constantly read the environment, tilt, ground conditions, and speed, then adjust in real time. The hub motors near each wheel provide smooth torque and precise control, while the compact design maintains stability even when the vehicle is not in use.

More Than Just One Star

Yamaha’s booth at the Japan Mobility Show won’t stop at the MOTOROiD:Λ. The company will also showcase other forward-thinking prototypes, including:

  • Tricera, a three-wheel electric autocycle with steering on all wheels.
  • PROTO BEV, an electric bike testing a new large-capacity battery system.
  • PROTO HEV and PROTO PHEV, hybrid bikes combining electric and gas power.
  • NACTUS VS TRE-X, an off-road electric wheelchair with 26-inch tires.

It’s all part of Yamaha’s mission to merge AI, electric mobility, and human-machine harmony into the future of transportation.
