Chennai-based Raptee Energy Pvt. Ltd. has received backing from the Technology Development Board (TDB) to develop and commercialise India’s first high-voltage 240-volt electric motorcycle platform. This is a breakthrough that brings electric car-level technology to the country’s two-wheeler market for the first time.
Faster Charging, Greater Efficiency
The new 240V DC architecture enables faster charging and improved efficiency. This is making electric motorcycles more compatible with India’s expanding public charging network. The project also includes a specialised battery pack certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). It ensures safety and performance standards match international benchmarks.
Six Years of Indigenous R&D
Raptee’s in-house R&D team, recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), has spent over six years designing and testing critical components electronics, mechanical systems, and embedded software. This deep, local engineering effort supports indigenous manufacturing and reduces dependence on imported technology.
Smart and Sustainable
Beyond raw performance, the platform integrates smart connectivity features. It comes with remote diagnostics and over-the-air software updates, allowing continuous upgrades over the motorcycle’s lifecycle. Production will follow zero-waste, zero-emission practices, aligning with India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. It also contributes to global climate goals, including UN SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
Voices of Support
Raptee CEO Dinesh Arjun welcomed the collaboration, calling TDB’s support “a validation of our long-term R&D efforts” and a critical step toward scaling up an indigenous high-voltage motorcycle platform.
With TDB’s backing and years of research behind it, Raptee’s 240V electric motorcycle project positions India to compete on the global stage and redefine what’s possible in the electric two-wheeler segment.
