Kriega R20: The Ideal Motorcycle Backpack

Kriega R20: The Ideal Motorcycle Backpack

Kriega’s R20 backpack offers 20 litres of rugged, versatile storage with the brand’s signature Quadlock-lite harness, durable Cordura build, and a new Multicam colourway, perfect for commuting or day rides.

For 25 years, Kriega has been setting the benchmark for motorcycle luggage. Founded in Wales in 2000, the brand has thrived in a landscape of rain, rugged terrain, and twisting mountain roads, conditions that demand gear that is as tough as it is functional. As Kriega celebrates a quarter-century in 2025, its lineup continues to expand, yet the core philosophy remains unchanged: rugged, versatile, ergonomic, and good-looking gear designed by riders, for riders.

Among the company’s most enduring products, the Kriega R20 backpack has earned a reputation as the “just right” choice in the brand’s lineup, a Goldilocks pack that sits between the smaller R15 and larger R30.

A Backpack Built for Real Riders

With a 20-litre capacity, the R20 hits the sweet spot. It’s large enough to swallow a 13-inch laptop, a hydration bladder, or a day’s worth of essentials, yet compact enough to remain sleek and unobtrusive for commuting or all-day rides. Whether you’re navigating rush-hour traffic or heading for a dual-sport adventure, the R20 balances size and function perfectly.

Signature Comfort: The Quadlock-lite Harness

At the heart of the R20’s design is Kriega’s innovative Quadlock-lite harness system. Unlike conventional backpacks that dig into the shoulders, the Quadlock design redistributes weight across the chest and torso. This not only increases comfort but also frees up arm movement, a blessing for riders wearing bulky jackets. Once adjusted, the system clicks in and out effortlessly, eliminating the hassle of constant strap readjustments.

Materials That Last

Durability has always been Kriega’s calling card, and the R20 is no exception. The pack is constructed with 1000D Cordura on the base and harness, while the body uses 420D ripstop nylon (in black) or 500D Cordura (in Multicam). A YKK heavy-duty zipper ensures reliable access, while reflective panels enhance visibility at night. Four compression straps keep the load secure even when the road gets rough.

Thoughtful Features & Upgrade Options

Inside, riders will find an internal sleeve for an optional 3-litre hydration bladder or CE-Level 2 back protector, plus a mesh zip pocket for small essentials. The smaller side-entry front pocket offers quick access for keys, passes, or tools.

The R20 is also highly adaptable: external hook-on points allow the integration of Kriega’s US-Drypacks for fully waterproof storage. A removable waist strap provides extra stability when needed.

Style With Substance

The R20 is available in classic black or a new Multicam colourway that adds a tactical edge to its rugged profile. At $195.99 (approx. RM862.36), it remains competitively priced given its build quality and longevity.

The Verdict

The Kriega R20 isn’t just another motorcycle backpack; it’s a benchmark. Rugged yet ergonomic, compact yet versatile, it adapts to commuting, day rides, and even light touring. For riders who want one pack that does almost everything without compromise, the R20 may just be the ideal motorcycle backpack.
