Blending robotics, motorcycles, and green energy, Kawasaki Heavy Industries just dropped one of the wildest concepts at the Osaka Expo 2025. Meet the Corleo, a four-legged, hydrogen-powered robot that’s basically a sneak peek at the future of off-road adventures.

Picture a futuristic horse mixed with a sci-fi machine, and you’re pretty close to what the Corleo looks like. Built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries (not the motorcycle division, just to be clear), the Corleo isn’t something you’ll see in showrooms anytime soon, but it’s loaded with tech and design cues that riders will definitely recognize.

Riding the Robotic Future

The Corleo moves by having the rider shift their weight around on the stirrups and handlebars, kind of like riding a real animal. It borrows a lot from motorcycle handling, too. You crouch low when you want to go fast and sit up taller when you’re crawling over rough ground, just like a jockey switching gears mid-race.

Rubberised hooves absorb impacts and maintain grip across different surfaces. The rear structure works much like a swingarm on a motorcycle, pivoting around the rider’s position to maintain balance and agility.

At its heart, the Corleo carries a 150cc hydrogen-powered engine, producing electricity to drive its four legs. The hydrogen tanks are cleverly tucked into its hindquarters, while an instrument panel keeps the rider informed with details like fuel level, center of gravity, and navigation cues. For nighttime excursions, the system even projects guiding markers onto the ground ahead.

More Vision Than Reality – For Now

The promo video shows the Corleo dashing across fields and hopping over rough terrain like a pro — but in real life, the version at Osaka Expo is keeping things low-key. It can stand and shift its posture a bit, but that dramatic galloping? Yeah, that’s still CGI magic (for now).

Still, the Corleo is less about immediate practicality and more about sparking imagination — a glimpse into what personal mobility could look like when robotics, renewable energy, and motorcycle heritage collide.

Kawasaki has no immediate plans to commercialize the Corleo, but if you’re passing through Osaka between April 13 and October 13, it’s a futuristic spectacle worth checking out.

One thing’s for sure: the future might not be about saving a horse — it might be about riding a Kawi.
