Round 2 of the MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) at Sepang International Circuit last weekend saw Nakarin Atiratphuvaphat of Honda Racing Thailand clinch a spectacular double victory in the MSBK1000 A race category.

The Thai rider’s composed performance was highlighted by a dramatic turn of events in Race 2, where early leader Azroy Hakeem Anuar of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team crashed out on the final lap, allowing Nakarin to seize the win.

The race began with Azroy taking a fiery lead, closely followed by Nakarin. Aussie rider Lechlan Epis of Savistar ESG Asia held a steady third position, fending off pressure from Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman of Horizon Racing Team and Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin of Yamaha Tekhne Racing Team Asia.

However, on lap 2, Azlan overtook Lechlan and surged forward to challenge the leading duo. The positions of the top three riders remained unchanged until the final lap when Azroy’s crash handed Nakarin the victory with a time of 21’23:707s.

Azroy Hakeem Anuar’s Crash on Final Lap Hands Win to Honda Racing Thailand’s Nakarin

Reflecting on the race, Nakarin said, “This race was particularly challenging due to the extreme heat, which made every lap a test of endurance. Azroy’s pace was impressive, and I pushed hard to keep up with him from the 5th lap. However, any further push could have led to a crash like Azroy’s. This race has been a valuable learning experience, and I’m eager to apply these lessons in the upcoming ARRC race.”

Azroy, who had dominated Race 1, experienced a crash on the second day, allowing Nakarin to move into the overall lead with 74 points. Azlan capitalized on this, securing second place with a time of 21’28:185s, while Kasma finished in third at 21’30:780s.

Nakarin now leads the overall rankings, with Azlan trailing by just four points. Azroy is third, trailing by 21 points, and Kasma is fourth, 32 points behind the lead.

In the MSBK1000 Category B, Dream Team’s Lee Po Yu claimed the title of Weekend Champion by winning both races.

Riding the M1000RR, Lee now sits atop the standings with 45 points, followed by Abhijith Satya Prasad with 33 points and Singapore’s Heng Si Kiat with 32 points.
