The adventure bike segment has been experiencing a surge in popularity, with enthusiasts seeking versatile machines capable of tackling both on and off-road adventures. In recent years, Chinese manufacturers have entered the fray. EICMA 2023 showcased the latest addition to the burgeoning market – the MBP T502X from Moto Bologna Passione. It is a relatively new player with intriguing ties to both China and Europe.
Firmly rooted in China, Moto Bologna Passione maintains its Italian-sounding name. The company is a subsidiary of the Keeway group. Keeway’s parent company is none other than the formidable Qianjiang Motor, aka QJ Motor. This unique blend of European nomenclature and Chinese manufacturing prowess underscores the global nature of the motorcycle industry. MBP, including the T502X, is produced in China by Chinese workers, with a firm commitment to make a significant impact in the European market.
The MBP T502X distinguishes itself in the adventure bike segment with a design that echoes elements of established models. It blends inspiration from the Harley-Davidson Pan America and Benelli’s BKX series.
As Benelli and MBP are under the QJ Motor umbrella, it’s reasonable to assume they share a common design and development team. The bike is designed with beginner riders in mind, particularly those with A2 licenses. The T502X houses a 486cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, parallel-twin engine. It has a respectable output of 47.6 horsepower and 43 Nm (32 pound-feet) of torque. Not to mention, the T502X promises a top speed of 160 kilometres per hour (100 miles per hour). This power is suitable for a broad range of riding scenarios, both on and off the beaten path.
Its 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, coupled with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires, further highlight the adventure capabilities of the T502X. A robust suspension system, featuring adjustable inverted front forks and a rear monoshock, provides an impressive 180 millimetres of travel. This setup contributes to a generous 210 mm of ground clearance, making the T502X well-suited for navigating diverse terrains. It comes with a reasonably accessible seat height of 830 mm and a dry weight of 195 kilos (430 pounds). The T502X aims to cater to a broad spectrum of riders.
Moto Bologna Passione has not yet revealed pricing and availability for the T502X. Anticipated to target European and Asian markets, the T502X, with its unique design and versatile performance, contributes to the global expansion of Chinese-made motorcycles, aiming to stand out in the competitive adventure bike segment.
