Last March, a patent appeared referring to the same 896cc DOHC V-Twin engine found on the Aprilia Shiver and Dorsoduro.
However, the patent comes with the Gilera badge thus remarking the iconic brand for the global market.
The latest report confirms the Gilera project will be continued by Piaggio’s partner in China, Zongshen which currently produces the Aprilia motorcycle brand in the Asian market.
Zongshen has previously unveiled a prototype model of the RA9 featuring the same engine found on the Shiver 900. However, the RA9 comes with an all-new body panel and design that apparently deviates from the look of the Aprilia Shiver 900.
Interestingly, some recent photos taken in China also confirmed the Aprilia Shiver 900 will be rebranded as Gilera.
Based on the photos shared, although the motorcycle is hidden behind the ‘camo’ graphics, it is clear that the design of the motorcycle features an Aprilia Shiver 900.
The Aprilia badge has also been replaced with a Gilera and emblazoned on the TFT screen as well as the headlights.
Interestingly, this latest development also to some extent gives the impression that several previous Aprilia models including the Dorsoduro and Caponord will be continued under the Gilera brand for the global market.
