Yamaha YZF-R7 images leaked ahead of official launch

Images of the incoming Yamaha YZF-R7 has been leaked online just ahead of its official launch. Here is everything we know so far!

Two weeks earlier Yamaha Motor Europe put up a launch teaser for a new motorcycle and we speculated the incoming model to be the earlier rumoured MT-07 based Yamaha YZF-R7. Well, with the world premiere set to take place on the 18th of May 2021, images of the incoming Yamaha YZF-R7 have already been leaked online.

Thanks to the latest leaked images, we now know a few details of the YZF-R7. Starting with the aesthetics, as speculated earlier the YZF-R7 gets an R-inspired design.

Upfront the model appears to feature a single pod headlamp unit with integrated air ducts and LED DRLs. At the rear, the highlight of the design is the 2-up seat and the minimalist LED taillamp unit.

In the case of brakes, the Yamaha R7 gets dual discs up front and a single disc at the rear. 2-Channel ABS is also expected to come standard. As for the suspension, the R7 gets USD front forks and mono-shock at the rear.

Moving to the oily bits, sources speculate the new Yamaha YZF-R7 to make use of MT-07’s 689cc (CP2) parallel-twin engine and the 6-speed gearbox. However, the powerplant of the incoming supersport would surely receive a few obvious tweaks. Besides this, other components such as the frame and the electronic package are rumoured to be carried forward from the MT-07 as well.

These are the details we know for now. We sure can’t wait to find out how the Yamaha YZF-R7 would stack up against the Aprilia RS660 and the Kawasaki Ninja 650. Well, let’s just wait for Yamaha to pull the cover off the R7  to find out more!
