Always trying to lead the motorcycle world into the urban mobility theme, Yamaha reveals the new three-wheeled scooter called Tricity 300. Following the footsteps of the first Tricity 125, this new 300 cc version promises to take urban mobility into a whole new level.

At the heart of the Yamaha Tricity 300, there’s a Blue Core engine.

This single-cylinder engine offers the perfect balance between performance, economy, and versatility. It’s a SOHC liquid-cooled and 4 valves with 300 cc, and it’s based on the one used on the popular XMax scooter but reworked for the Tricity.

For maximum combustion efficiency, the design of the combustion chamber and admission port has been optimized. The offset cylinder in DiASil is fitted with a forged piston for extra resistance.

For faster acceleration, the Tricity engine gets special fuel injection parameters. The injector now has 12 holes and is fixed in a different angle. According to Yamaha, these modifications offer a better low-end response, and the traction control makes sure to keep things under control in slippery surfaces.

Power losses are reduced using a semi-dry crankcase, and the crankshaft is manufactured from a single piece, forged, to lower the weight and increase resistance. The biggest feature on the Yamaha Tricity 300 is its multi-wheel leaning system. This front wheel assembly configuration offers greater confidence to all types of riders. The two wheels at the front are now 14’’ in size for extra comfort, but the Tricity 300 is also very agile when leaning from side to side.

The Leaning Multi-Wheel system also features a leaning lock. The rider can turn this feature on when stopping at a traffic light. That way the Tricity won’t fall to its side. And it makes it easier for the rider to use the center stand to park the bike.

Having two wheels at the front of the bike also offers a greater grip even on bumpy roads or surfaces. Besides, with two brake discs at the front, complemented by another at the back wheel, the Yamaha Tricity 300 offers impressive braking power. The brake system is unified, meaning that the brake power will be distributed by all wheels. Of course, the system also gets ABS.

The frame of this three-wheel scooter is made of aluminum tubes with specific thickness for balance between agility and strength. To reduce vibrations to a minimum Yamaha fixed the engine on the frame using a link system.

At the front, we find an LCD dashboard filled with all kinds of information about the Tricity. Under the seat, there’s space for two full-face helmets. There’s a 12 volts plug at the front panel. And the Tricity 300 even gets keyless ignition for added ease of use.

The new Yamaha Tricity 300 will arrive at Yamaha dealerships in the first months of 2020.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
