Tech3 offers Syahrin a seat in Moto2

Tech3 offers Syahrin a seat in Moto2

Hafizh Syahrin won’t stay in MotoGP in 2020. But Tech3 offers Syahrin a chance to stay in the World Championship by going to Moto2 class.

The second season in MotoGP isn’t going according to plan for Hafizh Syahrin. Since the Tech3 team switched to KTM machines, Syahrin hasn’t been able to match the results of his rookie season. Left without a MotoGP seat since Tech3 signed Brad Binder for 2020, Syahrin is now facing a tough decision regarding his future.

At this weekend Austrian Grand Prix, the Malaysian rider is set to announce his future. According to Hervé Poncharal, Tech3 owner, he gave Syahrin the chance to step down to the Moto2 class and ride for the team there.

Poncharal said that he spoke with Hafizh Syahrin during the weeks before the Summer break. He told his rider that Tech3 was going to sign a contract with Binder. So, Hafizh Syahrin already knew he wasn’t going to stay in MotoGP in 2020 before the team announcement of Binder signing.

But will Hafizh Syahrin accept the Tech3 offer to ride back in the Moto2 class?

According to the young Malaysian “At the moment I cannot decide, but in Moto2 with KTM it’s not too difficult to understand the character of the bike. Also, Binder made a step forward before the summer break. I speak to Hervé, also I speak to Razlan [Razali, Petronas team boss]”.

It seems that Razlan Razali, Petronas team boss, wants to secure Hafizh Syahrin back to his team in Moto2. The Petronas Sprinta team will feature a two-man team next season. Syahrin is the most desired rider to race one of their bikes. But only during the Austrian GP, we might get more information on Syahrin’s future.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
