New homologation rules for 2021 means updates to current bikes. Yamaha is working on a new MT-07 2021 to pass Euro5 homologation.
Spy shots of a development prototype reveal that Yamaha is working on a new MT-07 / MT 07. The Japanese brand hopes to update the popular naked and bring it to the market by 2021. This update comes as a way to get the MT-07 to pass the new Euro5 emission rules.
Yamaha tried to cover the main components with duct tape and other plastics. But the spy shots from MCN reveal new parts. The main change is the exhaust system. Yamaha has reworked the catalyzer and exhaust headers to improve exhaust gas flow.
The parallel twin-cylinder engine seems to remain untouched in this 2021 version. We believe that Yamaha engineers probably worked on the fuel injection system. But that doesn’t mean that the power will go up. The Yamaha MT 07 2021 is very popular in Europe for its predictable power delivery. And besides, this naked Yamaha fits under the European A2 license, so the power is limited.
Some rumors point to the arrival of different riding/power modes. But given that this is an affordable bike and none of its competitors have this feature, the new MT-07 2021 probably won’t get power modes.
What it might get is traction control! The test mule caught in these spy shots has different wheel sensors on both wheels. Traction control systems are now affordable enough to fit on this type of motorcycles without getting the price higher. If Yamaha can, in fact, use a traction control on the new MT-07 / MT 07 2021 that would put the Japanese naked a step ahead of its competitors.
Although we can’t see much about the design details due to the camouflage, we can see other new components. The brake discs are new, and the dashboard seems to be a TFT unit for a premium feel. Let’s wait for the official release date announced.
