After many years racing motorcycles, famous former rider Marc Coma decided to accept KTM offer and will take on the role of General Manager for KTM Spain. Five times winner of the Dakar Rally, and six times winner of the Cross Countries Rally Championship, Marc Coma will focus on a completely new challenge from now on.
Linked to KTM since early in his career, Marc Coma decided to hang up his race gear last year, and he took on the role to design the 2018 edition of the Dakar Rally. His skills were applauded by riders and teams alike, and when everyone thought Coma would continue evolving the Dakar Rally in the future, the Spaniard shocked by announcing his exit from ASO, the organization behind the Dakar.
Many speculated that Marc Coma opted to exit after some conflicts with ASO’s top directors, and that he would help create a rival event to the Dakar, but now in Africa, something many fans of the hardest off road event in the world have been asking for in the last few years.
But that’s not the case, and Marc Coma has already assumed his position in KTM Spain.
In this new chapter in Marc Coma’s life, the former Dakar winner hopes to lend all his knowledge into KTM’s motorsport activities
“I’m very proud to continue with KTM. I’m very happy to lead this ambitious project that I have in front of me now, and with the brand that saw me grow up. After my passage as Dakar’s sporting director I’m very motivated and feel the need to give all my knowledge of the motorsport world into this consolidated brand”.
With this announcement, this is the end of speculations about the creation of a new off road event aimed directly to compete with the Dakar Rally.
